Crispy Bread Sticks ~ for the kids or any time.

Group 1
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 package active dry yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
Group 2
2/3 cup hot water
2 tbsp vegetable oil
Group 3
1 to 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1.  Stir together
group 1 in a mixing bowl.
2.  Blend in
group 2.  Blend until smooth.
3.  Stir in enough flour from
group 3 to form a soft dough.
4.  Turn onto a floured surface.  Continue to work flour until dough is stiff
enough to knead.  Knead until smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes),
work in as much flour from group 3 as possible.  The more of the flour
you can work in, the crispier the bread sticks.
5.  Cover dough with bowl, let rest about 30 minutes.
6.  Divide dough into 4 equal parts.  Divide each of the 4 parts into 8 equal
pieces (you should have 32 equal pieces.  Allow dough to rest about 10
minutes (shaping the sticks will be easier).  Roll each piece with your hands
into about 10-inch lengths.
7.  Place on a greased baking sheet about 1/2-inch apart.  Brush with a mixture
of 1 egg white and 1 teaspoon water.
8.  Bake at 325º F for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Variation:  Sprinkle lightly with sea salt or sesame seeds prior to baking
